Lok Geet
Indian Sanaatani Sanskar and Festival related lok geets are dying. As families are breaking and urbanization along with dominance of Bollywood plus cheap songs on digital media are replacing traditional Geets during such events. For example: (a) Marriages perform in cities or foreign countries don't have resources [even if they have intention] to play traditional geets during various ceremonies. Neither the parents nor the guests know these geets or the rituals, nor the logical explanations for various rituals. (b) Visarjan of Maa Durga has DJ playing Bollywood created songs rather than traditional songs. and so on. On the other hand, we have many young artists creating Videos, Reels and Shorts, some using Traditional Geets. I feel there is a need to preserve these. A huge database of such geets categorized properly, based on events, langauge, regional area etc. should be created and made available to all to download on need-basis at a small price. Local artists should be tapped to create these Geets along with rituals in video and audio format, paying these artistics for their talent and time. Need your comments and suggestions.
